Grey hair comes with more folklore than almost any other hair topic — plucking myths, dietary cures, oiling promises. Here\’s what Ayurveda actually says, versus what\’s just been passed around.

MYTH: Plucking One Grey Hair Makes Ten More Grow Back
FACT: Each follicle operates independently — plucking one has no effect on neighbouring follicles. The real reason to avoid plucking is repeated trauma to the same follicle can damage it over time, not that it multiplies greys.
MYTH: Amla Oil Reverses Existing Grey Hair
FACT: Once a strand has fully greyed, no topical oil can restore its original pigment — that pigment-producing process happens at the follicle, not on the hair shaft itself. What amla oil does well is protect the antioxidant balance around the follicle, which may slow the rate of further greying, especially when it\’s stress or nutrition-related.
MYTH: Grey Hair Is Always About Age
FACT: Premature greying is frequently linked to chronic stress, Vitamin B12 deficiency, thyroid imbalances, or genetics — not age alone. Ayurveda has long connected greying to imbalances that modern nutrition science now recognises too.
MYTH: Stress Turns Hair Grey Overnight
FACT: This one has some truth to it — severe acute stress can trigger a related shedding condition, prompting pigmented hairs to fall out and be replaced by hair that grows in without pigment. It\’s not instant, but the stress-greying link is real, not folklore.
MYTH: Once You Start Colouring Grey Hair, You Can Never Stop
FACT: Colour doesn\’t affect the follicle\’s pigment production. You can stop and start colouring anytime — the only \”catch\” is a visible regrowth line, not any biological dependency.
Ayurveda\’s real strength here isn\’t reversing grey hair — it\’s supporting the underlying nutritional and stress-related imbalances that often accelerate it in the first place.
